Index - Vegetation of the Blue Mountains-Wollemi Region

The numeric code refers to the vegetation code was used in a fire prediction system, called PREPLAN. PREPLAN is an acronym for Pristine Resource Environment PLANning system. PREPLAN was set up in the mid 1980's to assist park managers with estimation of fire spread in the range of vegetation types found in the Blue Mountains-Wollemi land system. This system required reasonably detailed vegetation mapping, which was derived from a rudimentary decision tree mapping system. This decision tree mapping system basically used if then else logic statements to integrate GIS themes, such as digital terrain layers, geology, landform, and mapped vegetation to produce a vegetation map.

The alphanumeric vegetation code is a reference code of that vegetation type found within a particular vegetation province, which is a reflection of similar lithology, geomorphology, and climate in a given zone of the park of the land system. This formed the basis of modelling vegetation in such a diverse landscape.

The last category in the table referred to whether the vegetation type was mapped or modelled.

I am intending to upgrade this vegetation indes table as soon as I have completed a further floristic analysis of the vegetation of the Blue Mountains-Wollemi land system. The present table integrates all the vegetation mapping and flora survey work which has been carried out over the last fifteen years.
